The tall spires of garden hybrid Delphiniums are a feature of many herbaceous borders. The lovely flowers of these hardy perennials can be deep purple, all shades of blue, mauve, violet, cream, white or dusky pink, with contrasting coloured "eyes". Height too is variable, from 3-7ft, suitable for all types of garden and situation. Delphiniums with a more branching flower structure are available and there are dwarf types derived from alpine species. Red or yellow flowers occur in a few of the many wild delphinium species, which are often a challenge to grow.
Established in 1928, The Delphinium Society exists to promote the growing and breeding of the very best delphiniums and to bring together people interested in all aspects of the flower. Although the majority live in the British Isles, members are spread world-wide.
